-Do I have to be flexible to do yoga? Absolutely not. This is probably the most common myth that surrounds yoga, and it's by no means true. Absolutely anyone of any size, shape, age or ability can practice and feel the benifits of yoga. Increased flexibility is one of the benifits of yoga but not a prerequisite.
- Is yoga a religion? Not at all. Its a philosophy and a science leading a healthy, balanced life. But it can be whatever you want it to be, even if that's simply a bit of exercise and some time to relax.
- I'm a beginner. Will the class be too hard for me? No. Every asana (pose) comes in different forms, so that practitioners of all levels can take part in the class and feel the benefits. At the beginning, you may not be practicing the full expression of each and every asana but you will still notice the effects.
- Can I eat before class? During a yoga class your body will be twisted, folded and sometimes turned upside down (gently of course!) so it's best to try not to anything too heavy for about 1-2 hours before class.
-What should I bring? Bring a yoga mat if you have one (although i have a few available for those that don't), water and possibly a blanket for relaxation at the end of the class especially during the colder months.
-What should I wear? Anything that you'll be free to move in - a pair of shorts/ leggings and a top will be fine! And as we practice yoga barefoot you don't need to worry about shoes.
-Can I practice if I have a medical condition/injury? Yes, as long as you let me know before class what the condition is, yoga has many benefits for a lot of heath conditions and can help improve them.
And finally some sanskrit terms we use and their meanings:
Namaste- The light in me, honours/ loves/ respects the light in you Om (aum)- The sound of the universe, the sound of oneness and clear conciousness Shanti- Peace Asana - Pose/posture
